Distant Vortex

Distant Vortex

All of us are trying our best to calm down. But what was frightening wasn’t the bite: it was this sensation that someone or something else was also in the lab, waiting for the right moment to pounce at us.

"It's a wild guess, but I have a feeling that a creature unwelcome ate the apple," I said. "Besides, how do we know that whatever ate the apple isn’t here with us, too?" An awkward silence filled the room. We started glancing at each other, trying our best to conceive the idea.

"We need to face the problem. Why don’t we spread out and search the laboratory?" Dr. Nakia agreed with me.

I knew that I was simply born to be a scientist, especially after feeling helpless about saving my family. But let’s not talk about that, shall we? Being in the lab for such a long time drives people crazy. I don’t know how to interact with people; I don’t even know how to survive without instant noodles. And that’s not the biggest problem. After working in a lab for twelve years, I started to get paranoid about things. At the same time, I’m always yearning for someone I could talk to.

I’m not sure why, but I just know that something bad is going to happen, whether we like it or not.
