Talent Show Spectacle

    It is almost time for the tryouts for the school talent show. This year, the teachers said that they had prepared a surprise for the students. The famous judge for the show, “Shine!” is coming to Esville Elementary School as the judge for the kids’ talent show tryouts! The best performers would receive a chance at the show "Shine" and be able to let the world see their talents and maybe even become pop stars!

    “Get ready kids! ‘Cause this school is gonna rock! All students from grades 4 to 6 are allowed to join the tryouts. You’d better start practicing!” exclaimed Ms. Juniper, the principal all kids adore in Esville Elementary.

    “This is AWESOME!” exclaimed Drew, a fifth-grader who watched every single episode of “Shine!” on TV. "I might become famous!" shouted Gale, who had always wanted fame and fortune. 

    Paige and Samuel, who are best friends, are both attending the tryouts on Friday. They were talking about the tryouts for the school talent show after class. Samuel has always wanted to become a professional singer, so he signed up for the tryouts immediately. 

    Samuel really, really wanted to win the talent show, and he knew that he would sing well, especially after his wish. "Oops! Shouldn't have thought about the wish!" thought Samuel to himself. Clearing his thoughts, he asked Paige, “Paige, do you mind if I sing my song for the talent show to you for practice? You would be my first audience, except that was my doll, Stephen. Oh, I shouldn’t have said that…” Samuel blushed. 

    “It’s okay. Everyone has dolls. Anyway, sure, please begin your song. I will be your judge for today,” answered Paige, acting all professional. Samuel cleared his throat and counted "One, two, three" before starting singing and dancing at the same time, “Oh yeah! This is my first time in a talent show, and I really can do it...!” 

    Only after the first few lines, Paige shouted, "Wow, Samuel! That was really, really good! And did you write the lyrics? You're a natural!" She was in awe of Samuel's talent. "Oh, um, thanks. Yeah, I did write the lyrics. They just sort of came to me," said Samuel, thinking about his wish. 

    "You are so going to win this talent show," said Paige as they walked out of school. Samuel had a big smile on his face. Everything was going great unless everyone knew his secret.
